Adjacent to Orakkadu road, Cholavaram Road – advance to shri Agastheeswaram Temple 

புழலில் இருந்து சுமார் 12  கிமி தொலைவில் உள்ள சோழவரம் பகுதிக்கு உட்பட்ட சோழிப்பாளையம் என்ற கிராமம் அமைந்துள்ளது. 

 

அவ்வூரில்  ஒரு வீட்டின் முற்பகுதியில் கட்டப்பட்ட சிற்றாலயத்தில் ஒரு அழகிய தீர்த்தங்கரர் சிற்பம் மூலவராக அமைந்துள்ளது. இந்தத் தீர்த்தங்கரர் சிலை 22வது தீர்த்தங்கரர் நேமி நாதருக்காக அர்ப்பணிக்கபட்டுள்ளதாக வீட்டின் சொந்தக்காரர் தெரிவிக்கிறார். 

 

இவர் இந்த ஊரின் குளத்தில் இருந்து மீட்கப்பட்டதாக கூறுகின்றனர். சமணத்தின் பால் பற்று கொண்ட அவரது பாட்டனார் அதை தனது இல்லத்தில் வைத்து பூஜிக்க எண்ணி, வீட்டின் முன்புறம் சிறிய ஆலயம் கட்டி அதில் நிறுவியுள்ளார். இச்செய்தியை கேள்வியுற்ற சில வரலாற்று ஆய்வாளர்கள் மற்றும் தமிழ்ச் சமணர்கள் நேரில் சென்று பார்த்து அவரைப் பாராட்டியதோடு அச்சிலையை தொழும் முறையைச் சொல்லிச்சென்றதாக அவரது பெயரன் தெரிவிக்கிறார்.

 

தீர்த்தங்கரர் மிகவும் தொன்மையான வடிவத்துடன் காணப்படுகிறது. ஜினருக்கான எட்டு வகைசிறப்புகளையும் வடித்துள்ளார்கள். அதன் விபரங்கள் அனைத்தும் தேய்ந்திருந்தாலும் அடையாளம் முழுவதுமாக தென்படுகிறது.  

 

அதன் அருகே இசாகொளத்தூரில் இருந்து கொண்டு வரப்பட்டு ஸ்தாபனை செய்யப்பட்டுள்ள  இயக்கி தர்மதேவியும் வழிபாட்டில் உள்ளது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.  

 

இந்த அருகர் (நேமிநாதர்) சிலை 12ம் நூற்றாண்டுக்கு முற்பட்டவராக இருக்கலாம் என்பது பல அறிஞர்களின் கூற்று. மிகவும் தொன்மையான சிலைவடிவமும் அதன் தேய்மானமும் அவர்களது கணிப்பை நீரூபிப்பது போல காணப்படுகிறது.

Sozhipalayam is a village in the Cholavaram region, about 12 km from Puzhal.

 

In that village, a small temple built in front of a house a beautiful Tirthankara sculpture. The owner of the house says that this Tirthankara statue is dedicated to the 22nd Tirthankara, Nemi Nath.

 

It is said that he was recovered from the pond of this village. His grandfather, who was fond of Jainism, wanted to keep it in his house and worship it, so he built a small shrine room with a viman on the top, in front of the house. Hearing this news, some historians and Tamil Jains went to see him in person, praised him and told him how to worship the Lord during that time.

 

The Tirthankara seems to be very ancient form. It has carved eight types of special features for Jinar.  Although all its details are worn out, the identity is completely visible.

 

It is noteworthy that the idol of Dharmadevi, which was brought from Isakolathur and installed near it, is also installed adjacent to that  statue.  

 

Many scholars claim that this Arugar (Nemi Nath) idol may be before the 12th century. The very ancient shape of the idol and its wear and tear seem to confirm their guess.
